# Usability Testing Script **Project:** [Test name] **Moderator:** [Name] **Session length:** 60 minutes **Target participants:** 5–8 ## Pre-session checklist - [ ] Prototype / build loaded and working on the test device - [ ] Recording set up (screen + camera + audio) - [ ] Consent form reviewed - [ ] Note-taker in session - [ ] Task cards or share-screen setup ready ## 1. Intro (3 min) > Hi [name], thanks for joining. I'm [name], I work on [team]. Today we're looking at [product area]. I want to be clear up front — we're testing the product, not you. There's no right or wrong answer. If anything is confusing, that's really useful for us to know. > > Please think aloud as you go. Whatever's running through your head is helpful — "I'm looking for the button to submit", "I'm not sure what this means", that kind of thing. > > I'll give you a task and let you work on it. I won't help, because I'm trying to see what you'd do on your own. If you get stuck, that's genuinely useful data for us, so just do what feels natural. > > We're recording — is that OK? Any questions before we start? ## 2. Warm-up (3 min) - Can you briefly tell me what you do day to day? - Have you used [product category] before? Which ones? ## 3. Tasks ### Task 1 **Scenario:** [Context the participant imagines, in their language] > Imagine you're [situation]. You've just [relevant setup]. **Task:** [Specific action the participant should take] **Success criterion:** [Objective — participant reached X, within Y, with no help] **Observations to capture:** - Where did they look first? - Where did they hesitate? - Did they verbalise confusion? - Did they complete the task? How long? ### Task 2 **Scenario:** [...] **Task:** [...] **Success criterion:** [...] ### Task 3 **Scenario:** [...] **Task:** [...] **Success criterion:** [...] ## 4. Post-task questions (after each task) - How did that feel on a scale of 1–7 (1 = very hard, 7 = very easy)? - What was easiest about that? - What was hardest? - Was there anywhere you felt uncertain what to do? ## 5. SUS (3 min, at the end) Read each statement. Participant rates 1 (strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree). 1. I think that I would like to use this system frequently. 2. I found the system unnecessarily complex. 3. I thought the system was easy to use. 4. I think that I would need the support of a technical person to be able to use this system. 5. I found the various functions in this system were well integrated. 6. I thought there was too much inconsistency in this system. 7. I would imagine that most people would learn to use this system very quickly. 8. I found the system very cumbersome to use. 9. I felt very confident using the system. 10. I needed to learn a lot of things before I could get going with this system. Score with the [SUS calculator](https://uxcompanion.co.uk/tools/sus-calculator). ## 6. Debrief (5 min) - Overall, what stood out? - If you could change one thing, what would it be? - Anything you'd like to add that didn't come up? > Thanks — [next step on incentive]. If you have any questions, feel free to email [address].
