Competitor UX Analysis Tool

Compare your product against up to four direct competitors across ten UX dimensions. The tool builds a comparison matrix, ranks performers, surfaces your strongest differentiators and weakest gaps, and writes a prioritised list of opportunities. Designed for use before a redesign brief, after a competitor launch, or as a quarterly health check.

Step 1 · Name the entities
Step 2 · Score each dimension

Score every cell from 1 (poor) to 5 (excellent). Work dimension by dimension across all entities, not entity by entity. That's the discipline that prevents halo bias.

Name at least your product and two competitors, then score a few dimensions to see ranked totals, gap analysis and priority actions.

Three disciplines that make this useful

  1. Score by dimension, not by entity. Go across every entity's value proposition before moving to navigation. That order prevents halo bias, the single biggest threat to competitive analysis.
  2. Pilot on yourself first. Score your own product before any competitor. Force yourself to articulate why each score is what it is. The articulation is the value; the number is the shorthand.
  3. Run it twice with two people. Independent scoring by two reviewers, then compare. Disagreements surface the dimensions worth investigating; agreements give you confidence in the resulting priorities.

The tool is a starting framework, not a rulebook. Add or remove dimensions for your category. The output is most useful when read alongside usability testing on the weakest two dimensions and a scoped audit on the most critical flow.
